Germinal by Emile Zola- while the town and the miner’s strike is fictional, the author did a lot of research and heavily based his writing on what he actually saw in similar strikes. The names are fictional , the events aren’t kinda deal.

‘The Other End of the Telescope’ tells the story of a doctor working at a refugee camp. It was the best book I read last year.

Kristin Hannah does this well with her historical fiction. Migrant farmer labor movement during the dust bowl, nurses in Vietnam war, etc.
