So I've bought Lonesome Dove and I've read maybe the first 40ish pages. Unfortunately someone spoiled that >! some of the characters die (Gus, Newt, etc) and how it happens !<.

I'm mostly curious if the book hinges on those things. Like…is it still worth reading the book knowing those things in advance? I know that the book is widely considered as the best Western in literature and I imagine that many people will still say it's worth reading, but I'm not sure. If those things are huge plot points and are main crux of the story, should I continue?

    1. I mean that’s like asking if it’s worth watching Star Wars because you know Darth Vader is Luke’s father. I don’t see how it’d take away your enjoyment.

Also, one of those does not happen in this book but in a different book in the series.

    2. The story is the journey and one of those are but mere stops on said journey. It’s important but knowing it happens won’t necessarily ruin your enjoyment of the book. I knew going into it and it didn’t ruin it for me but I like spoilers bc I have anxiety.
