    1. I keep forgetting authors can be part of the Oscars voting it just depends if their membership is current (and I guess Kings is). I mean I agree here. People are dying in the area where the Oscars take place, who cares about an awards show?

Why not suggest using some of the proceeds from the event to help those who have been effected by the fires? What does cancelling the event accomplish other than virtue signalling?

    3. Don’t know about cancelled, we still want to acknowledge people who put work in, but maybe push them to June or September.

    4. I do think it would be in poor taste to hold an awards ceremony right next to that apocalyptic scene

    5. That seems like a bit of an overreaction. Just because something bad is happening doesn’t mean we can’t take the time to celebrate something else. If we spent all of our time mourning and feeling bad about a situation then there wouldn’t be much joy in the world would there?

However I do think The Oscars should pay tribute to all those affected in some way – maybe a donation of some sort, or, one excellent idea I saw online is that they could even have a few firefighters present best picture. LA has given so much to the movie industry, so I feel like it would be only right if they gave something back, especially in a time of need such as this.

But to cancel? No, I don’t see what good that would do.

Plus the Oscars isn’t until March, so hopefully the fires will all be over by then.

    6. I totally understand morally, but it’s also a huge event that employs a lot of people which is important right now too
