    1. **Andrei Platonov – The Foundation Pit.**
Dystopian story about workers digging massive foundation for communal house. However plot isn’t really important here, it’s more a profound exploration of the human spirit’s struggle in realities of soviet collectivization. What captivated me most was how beautifully it is written. Quite short, so I definitely recommend giving it a chance.

**John le Carré – The Spy Who Came in from the Cold**
An absolute classic of spy fiction. A wonderful, gripping, multi-level intrigue. Unlike many other books of this type, there are no daring actions or chases. The most important thing happens during the interrogations, where the parties try to manipulate each other.
