Try the Amelia Peabody Mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. Victorian Melodrama pastiche. Most of the books are set in Egypt in the archeological scene. Peters was an Egyptologist so the archeology stuff is pretty solid. But the books are lots of fun and Amelia is a delight. The first book is Crocodile on the Sandbank. Each book is a different Archeological season so Amelia ages throughout the series.
