After reading a lot of detective fiction over the holidays, I had an epiphany that the reason I love one of my all-time favourite series so much – Sherlock Holmes – is less because of the mysteries (I've also discovered I cannot *stand* procedural novels lol), and more because of 1) Sherlock being someone who likes to solve problems for people in need of help, and 2) the close friendship between Sherlock and Watson. So I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of books like that!

You might like The ***No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency*** series of novels by Alexander McCall Smith. The protagonist Precious Ramotswe is a gentle, benevolent, helpful person and has close friendships with some of the other characters.
