Im sorry if this isnt the correct flair, I can totally change it if the mods want me to.
I want to think more critically and consciously about the world around me. I am a US citizen who hasn't been able to afford the ability to leave the US ever, and I know there are more perspectives out there then just what the media is showing us or what im seeing on social media. I won't lie, I am a extremely progressive personality and am actively trying to steep myself in the world of activism, not just through protests and cutting off my unchangable friends, but through critical reasoning, sound logic and extensively questioned beliefs that will hold up to my own scrutiny.
I want to understand the history of political movements that are seemingly shaping the world around me. I want to be able to think critically and deeply about the worlds issues, not just because I want to fight with people on threads, but because I want to show my family and my son that knowledge is the ultimate tool to wield against biased perspectives and prejudiced beliefs.
In the most specific wording i can use, I am 30 yrs old and I don't ever want to become an incel or indirectly raise an incel.
Please help me with book suggestions about womens rights, world politics, social/political movements throughout history, philosphy. I know there is a banned book list but I just am clueless about where to start, but I truly want to start!
I've read books like "Killing the black body" by dorothy roberts, "The conscious Parent" by Shefali Tsabary, PHD and even a book that I was recommended in high shcool called "Basic writings of existentialism" edited by Gordon Marino. I am extremely intersted to read more of those types of books and I know i have huge gaps in knowledge but thats what im here for. I just want to be well rounded progressive who indirectly and directly raises a healthy confident man that shares the same values and underlying motives for being a generally good person.
Also, I can't afford a whole bunch of books at the moment, so if there are recommendations for audio books of these kinds, that would be extremely helpful as well. I have access to spotify audio books, hoopla, and libby.
Thank you! i appreciate any and all recommendations.
