Hi, I work at a bookstore and a library… we just had an Onyx Storm sale party thing and people went all out. I usually read psychological thrillers and really don’t care for fantasy.. but people have me wondering.

    1. I’ll fully admit to being a closeted Fourth Wing fan. Is it super well written? Not particularly, IMO. Does the author do a great job in story building/leaving Easter eggs to find? Yup. In my opinion, it’s a fun read that leaves you wondering given the clues the author leaves in the books. Would I recommend it to my boss? NOPE. Would I recommend it to my best friend as a fun escape? Sure.

    2. I read Fourth Wing but not the sequel – it’s fast paced and very entertaining. Kind of Harry Potter/ Divergent, with dragons?

My daughter absolutely TORE through the book and the sequel too. We’ve picked up Onyx Storm for her and will be sharing it out to friends too.

Caveat: I always try to read books that are huge ‘phe-noms’ or that get mentioned in second sources like newpaper articles. So YMMV?

    3. It definitely is for a certain demographic. I tried picking it up months ago but couldn’t get into it, even as someone who loves romance novels, and fantasy.

I’ve considered giving it another chance but it doesn’t seem to be that good imo. It’s technically NOT YA,
(and some fans get upset if you call it similar to YA, which is fair enough) but I remember it having a lot of similarities to YA writing.

    4. no. don’t get me wrong it’s a fun read especially with friends but it isn’t what i consider a good book. if you’re into ya, dragons and smut then it may be for you though

Very much depends on how deep into romantasy you are. I’m not a romantasy reader per se (I read everything, but I haven’t delved too deeply into the subgenre) and it didn’t click with me. But my coworkers (who largely only read romantasy) tout it as the best book they’ve ever read.
