Im just looking for something where the relationship is developed naturally over time through a variety of means, forced alliance, trauma bonding, whatever. I dont want them to start losing their head just because their really pretty. One dynamic I really loved was the relationship between rin and nezha in the poppy war spoiler for series:: (they barely even count as a relationship ik but they still loved eachother in a romantic kind of way) but I loved how their relationship developed from enemies to allies to friends then to enemies who loved eachother
Also, I'd like it if both characters are developed on their own outside of the relationship (i dont want to read about an accessory boyfriend who blindly follows the mc). What I liked about Rin and Nezha, they both had their own contrasting beliefs and motivations that made their dynamic even more interesting to read about. Even at the peak of their relationship they were sometimes physically and verbally aggressive towards eachother and I loved when they fought as much as I loved when they were on the same side because it highlighted their strengths and flaws.
Always love a good enemies to lovers but whatever works idm.
Haven't read too many adult fantasy books so I don't have much to compare to and im open-minded to whatevers suggested.
I don't mind if romance is a minor subplot and doesnt drive the direction of the book but as long as its there and is done well then ill be happy. (I don't care for affection i just want the love man..)
