At the end of December I responded to a post that asked the commenter to share their favorite book(s) of the year and they would be given a suggestion for their next read. The book suggested for me was Room by Emma Donoghue, which became my first read of 2025. I didn't know much about it, but I read it and really enjoyed it. I thank you for such a wonderful suggestion!

I chose my next two reads in January on my own. The First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston, was my second read and I went into it completely blind. I had no clue what it was about and, while I was thrown for a bit when I realized where the story was going, I couldn't put it down. My third book was The Next Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine. I read the first Parrish book last year and the second did not disappoint. I finished it this evening and it left me eager to keep reading, so now I need a book to start for February. Currently in my TBR pile are…

Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson

The House of My Mother by Shari Franke

The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

Which would you choose? Or would you choose something else completely?

I'm pretty willing to read most things, although I typically read before bed so I tend to avoid anything too terribly deep or difficult to follow. I'm also not a huge fan of romance. You gave me a great suggestion with Room, so I'm curious to see what else you have to offer. Thank you!

P.S. Other books I've really enjoyed… The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Educated, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, The Family Upstairs, Jaine Austen cozy mysteries, Memoirs of a Geisha, Cane River, I'm Glad My Mom Died, Bitter is the New Black.
