Hi everyone- looking for something to read. I have recently taken a look at my life and my almost nonexistent list of hobbies, I’ve realized that I have not tried enough activities in life other than work, video games, cars, and probably lots of other super common things like gym.. fast food, etc. I realize that we live in a world where we can do lots of different things and become anything we put our minds to. But without any direction or bias to action, I feel like it is easy to become stagnant and shrink our own world into a small bubble. I want to learn something new, I want to seek out interesting opportunities and I want to broaden my overall understanding of the world.
I’m not interested in fiction unless it has parallels to real life in a way that provides valuable / meaningful lessons involving morality, or something deeply thought provoking.
I can’t really tell you exactly what I am looking for here, so I would really appreciate just about any suggestion, especially if you are in huge favor of such a read. I personally am not a big reader (not because I don’t like to read, I actually love to read!). I always told myself I don’t have the time, but that is a big lie! I work from home and often find myself with time to spare that eventually is poured into soul draining apps like TikTok.
I have read some self-improvement books here and there, or books like 40 laws of power, but I would be interested in reading anything that could possibly spark a new interest or hobby. I want to expand my knowledge in my free time. So, for example, a book about real estate; if in your opinion it is an interesting read and not just a college textbook… if it inspires me to want to do real estate, or at least teaches me something valuable that would aid my understanding of how the world works in regards to real estate, that would be awesome!
If it helps your suggestions, I could share a few things about myself. I work as a Data Analyst (I’ve gotten a bachelors and masters in computer sci and data science, respectively), I love cars and technology. I like going to the gym and I am mostly to myself with a very small circle of friends (big family though!). I like to think that I am an ambitious person… maybe a little nerdy. I am known for having lots of ideas and starting random projects (I have a huge problem with finishing them though). Sometimes I come across as someone who reaches too far, or is grandiose, but I believe it is because people often do not try hard enough to achieve their goals, or are discouraged by doubtful remarks of people around them. I am simply eager to learn more and hate that I know so little! If I can get myself into vaping nicotine every day, certainly I find another activity that actually adds value to my life. With that being said—- please share any impactful or insightful reads!
Thanks 🙂
