Suggest me a public domain short story that is either in the realm of noir or thriller

I’m desperately looking for an idea for a short film to write and so I’ve turned to short stories to glean ideas from. The problem though is that I have no idea where to start. I can’t remember any good short stories I read while I was in school and Google has been no help.

So what I’m looking for is a short story in the public domain in the genre of either noir or thriller. If it’s a comedic noir or a comedic thriller, that’s even better. Thank you!
