A book to understand America’s side trough history

So recently I have been consuming content and reading books like The Jakarta Method by Vincent Bevins that explain all the really bad things that USA have done since independency, like colonizing and exterminating every communist society. I think I have kinda see them as villains now, and I don't like that, I want to understand their side, hear explanations to this events, or see If something I read was a lie.
