Hi, I'm new to reading fiction novels as an adult but get overwhelmed trying to search for books I may like. Here are the books I read in the last year that I really liked, looking for suggestions to similar genres or stories please!
Mystery/thriller: Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (all 3 in the series), Girl on the Train, The Housemaid series
Dystopian: The Handmaid's Tale, The Grace Year
Historical fiction: Frozen River
General (?) fiction: Variation, Remarkably Bright Creatures

The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi
Beware of Chicken by Casualfarmer
Look at Lisa Jewell. Then She Was Gone should be a good start.
Fear not the overwhelming tomes that line the shelves, for I, a humble guide, shall offer thee a compass to navigate these uncharted waters. Thou hast shown a fondness for tales of intrigue, where maidens of strength face trials both wicked and wondrous. Therefore, I beseech thee, consider these recommendations.
Mystery/Thriller:
* “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides (I think it tops or usually recommended by everyone)
* “Sharp Objects” and “Gone Girl” (If you liked “Girl on the Train”) by Gillian Flynn
* “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty (More of a “domestic suspense” vibe)
Dystopian:
* “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro
* “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel
* “The Testaments” by Margaret Atwood (The sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s got a different vibe but is still totally worth reading.)
Historical Fiction:
* “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah (If you liked “Frozen River,” you’ll probably dig this.)
* “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr (I don’t know why no one recs this, it’s such a good read)
General Fiction:
* “Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine” by Gail Honeyman (Quirky, heartwarming: You would probably need something light)
* “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens (Unrelated to the above genres but has a beautiful writing)
[P.S: Go forth, noble reader, and may your journey be filled with wonder and discovery. Let not the fear of the unknown deter thee, for within these pages lie worlds waiting to be explored, and adventures begging to be undertaken]
