    Hi all,

As the title states, I lost my home in the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles exactly a month ago today. Reading is and always has been my number one passion, hobby, and relaxation in life, and I live for it. But this fire has put me in such a funk. The normal books I like and the ones that were on my TBR for this year just aren't hitting, and I'm positive it has to do with the aftermath and mental recuperation from the fire.

My family and I are safe. We were also able to find a rental close to home so my kids could stay in the same school. We are very lucky, and I see that every day when I'm talking to others that are going through the same thing.

But I just can't get back into reading.

Please suggest a book that will help me get out of the "reading slump" as it were, but something that really grabs you, is more on the lighthearted side, and will help me "escape" mentally for the time being while we navigate this as a family.

Thank you in advance, reading sleuths. You are some of my absolute favorite people to exist. <3

    1. I’m so sorry for everything that you and your family are going through. The book that really made me laugh a lot recently was The Netanyahus by Joshua Cohen. It’s supposed to be based on a true occurrence of one Jewish Professor’s really bad weekend.

    2. Agatha Christie helped me when I was dealing with some heavy emotions and having trouble concentrating on or caring about what I was reading. Very easy reading but still engaging. I’ve particularly liked the Miss Marples, the Tommy & Tuppence series, Murder on the Orient Express, and the stand-alones Sparkling Cyanide and Crooked House.

Me too! I lost my house in Pacific Palisades. I just bought an illustrated edition of Harry Potter By Jim Kay and been using it as a coping mechanism
