Can I ask for some kids book recommendations? I have a 2 year old daughter who loves animals and books about animals. My husband has bought her some books but they all have male heroes in them. I would love to get her some books where there are female animal heroines. Some books she likes are the Beatrix Potter series and the Frog and Toad books by Arnold Lobel. If there is a better sub for this question please let me know.

I Googled “childrens book female animal protagonist and got this great [list](https://sfpl.bibliocommons.com/list/share/381551987/827106628) from the San Francisco Public Library.
I know I loved the Maisy books and Angelina Ballerina when I was a kid, Julia Donaldson’s Tales from Acorn Wood series also has some female characters although they’re not necessarily the ‘heroes’ of the story but they’re really fun. And just on the off chance that you aren’t *totally* sick of books with male heroes — the Percy the Park Keeper series is absolutely adorable, Percy himself is obviously a guy again, but the animals aren’t gendered and all the books in the series are really sweet, they used to be some of my favourites lol and the illustrations are lovely too with some really cool fold-out pages I remember being obsessed with! It’s not girly by any means but imo perfect for animal lovers 🙂
My kids love the Mercy Watson series.

The animal protagonists have no specified sex in Francois Crozat’s I Am a Little… series, and Karen Wallace’s Imagine You Are a… series.
