My father who adopted me when I was a baby passed away. His family, including his two kids who are in their 60s, and I were not on speaking terms because of a lot of malice, selfish and mean things they did to me and my mom over the years. Incessant bullying and greed. I remained very close with my father. Trips, regular lunches, calls. When he passed away, they did not notify me. His children are very invested in his estate – I actually asked to be written out of the will to avoid drama. I had to learn about the funeral details publicly, and then nobody in the family spoke to me at the funeral. I was left out of all arrangements. I wouldn't know he was dead if I hadn't seen a social media post from a relative. Oh, and they also didn't list me in his obituary.
I have complicated feelings. They are trying to unwrite 45 years of me being his daughter. Can anyone recommend some good books to help me cope? I'm normally a scifi and scifi thriller reader so I feel out of my element but looking for strength and some words to escape into. Thanks in advance.
