looking for a book that feels like a dark brick road after a rainy night and cigarette smoke

hi im looking for a dark, noir-like romance that has that unique solemn feel to it. i particularly enjoyed the ambience of giovannis room by james baldwin and im looking for more books like it. i love books with a lot of complexity and realistic characters. i lean towards bittersweet endings but happy ones are good too. i havent read a mature romance in a while and i have been craving that sort of book since its been raining lately. thank you ❤️ i am grateful for any recommendation
