So, I always loved reading, but as of lately I've found the just the idea of it puts me off from picking up a book. I know reading is great and that It's something that I enjoy, yet I cant seem to commit to just sitting down and doing the damn thing. I really don't know why I feel like this, nor what to do about. really I just want something to read that fun, preferably short and without that filler type stuff that stops me reading halfway through.

    thanks in advance!

    1. Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series

    2. MellowMallowMom on

The book that got me back into reading after a long hiatus was *Nothing to Lose* by Lee Child. It’s a Rambo-esque, fast-paced read with no fluff.

    3. Two suggestions

      1) All Systems Red… by Martha Wells
      – it’s the first novella in the Murderbot Diaries series… it’s one of top recommended books on this sub… for good reason…

Short, hilarious, full of action… and just an overall great story…

A cyborg security guard is rented to keep a group of scientists safe on a mission…
What they don’t realize is that it’s secretly hacked it’s ‘Governor module’ the thing in its brain that makes it obey orders…

What it really wants to do is watch soap operas…

What it ends up doing is risking itself over and over to protect this group of scientists…who are… nice?

Murderbot is what it calls itself… it’s full of self loathing, has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, and is dealing with a metric ton of trauma…

      2nd choice

      Dungeon Crawler Carl

Silly title… but Jesus h Christ, what an absolutely brilliant story.

While out chasing his ex girlfriend’s cat, named Princess Donut, Carl witnesses the end of the world… an alien invasion…

Now, all of humanity is forced to play a world wide real life game of ‘world of Warcraft’ in dungeons, against monsters… and other humans…

Oh… and princess donut comes with him, and due to the Bizzare sci-fi science of the aliens, is now sentient, and his partner in the game…

It’s insane, violent, utterly hilarious…. And oddly enough, genuinely poignant…
