This title and post is going to reveal how incredibly naive I am, just hear me out, i'm trying to expand my horizons.
I want to read more adult books but I don't care for any flavors of erotica, sex, or the main characters being pessimistic/cynical assholes with substance or relationship problems. I'm afraid of trying to listen (yes, listen), to a book and getting irritated by the narrator being an annoying doomer for a good portion of it.
Now, I really enjoyed LOTR even though it was a pretty desolate and desperate story all things considered. I can't really articulate what exactly i'm looking for, I just want something that can have a deeper story without being sunk in vices or romance or whatever. The world is already pessimistic and doomer enough, I don't need too much more of that.
