Pls help me get my kid to read more. It's one of my parenting regrets that I didn't start her on reading early. I hope it's not too late.

She likes reading but only about topics that interest her (mostly fantasy from the shows we watch and the games we play), and only if they have pictures. She's a gifted artist and has started creating her own short storybooks. She is obssessed with magic, wizards, spells, potion-making, and the likes. She wants her fantasy world to be real and wants a pet dragon.

Should I start her with graphic novels instead?

I hope you can suggest books she might like. Also book series — something that would give her the same feels as watching a cartoon series.

Thank you so much! Just joined this community and already loving the posts and suggestions I've read so far. 🙂

Tamora Pierce has some great fantasy series for kids that age, Circle of Magic is a good one.

“So You Want to Be a Wizard” series and “Dealing With Dragons” are great. The book “Eragon” and the subsequent books. Cornelia Funke also has a lot of great kids/young adult fantasy books as well.

For graphic novel cozy fantasy books for her age she might like “The Tea Dragon Society”

Kelly Barnhill: The Girl Who Drank the Moon

Susan Cooper: The Dark is Rising series

Yes, graphic novels and manga are a great choice but you need to be careful because a lot of these are written for higher age groups. Maybe Little Witch Academia.
