My husband and I enjoy reading out loud to each other, usually while we're washing dishes or just lying in bed. We've found that some books are better suited than others, and some books that we might like to read to ourselves don't land the same way out loud. Books with less lyrical prose or extensive descriptions and stories and characters that are easier to follow seem to work best. Compelling plots are a plus. Past books we've read aloud and particularly enjoyed are True Grit, The Elementals by Michael McDowell, and most recently Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. Thanks!
