I'm looking for space action/spy thriller with a sufficiently militant, possibly antihero, not a bleeding-heart-pacifist protagonist. Think "Tom Clancy in space". Or "Gunpowder Moon" but with Hale or even Thatcher, not Dechert as the lead. Horror elements are welcome too. Better if it isn't a space opera with multiple known alien species. Preferably written in the current century.
Had read the above mentioned Gunpowder Moon, One Way/No Way, Planetside series, Dead Space (by Kali Wallace, not video game related), Richard K Morgan, Peter Watts, The Expanse series, Six Wakes, Mickey 17, Deathform, Dead Silence, COBRA series, Sten Chronicles, Old Man's War, Forever War, some Vernor Vinge, Bruce Sterling and Alaster Reynolds, Harrington series, Fiasco by Stanislaw Lem… Heard about the Murderbot and Bobiverse, considering it.
Warhammer 40K does not qualify (it's tech fantasy – not sci-fi enough, and a space opera to boot).
Thank you!

A bit older but the Vatta’s War series by Elizabeth Moon has action
Red Rising series – warfare and rebellion in a future where humanity lives in rigid hierarchies. The fighting scenes and battles are intense.
I don’t think you’ll like murderbot
Revenger by Alistair Reynolds
