    1. Oh, you are spoilt for choice. If you and your fellow students are already familiar with Charlotte Brontë’s *Jane Eyre* (which should be a safe assumptions for English literature majors), you could try Jean Rhys’s *Wide Sargasso Sea* (1966), which is a postcolonial and feminist prequel to *Jane Eyre*. It is the novel that brought Jean Rhys late fame, after many years of writing in relative obscurity.

    2. Coffee-with-a-straw on

      Try Barbara Kingsolver – many great books. Not sure if she qualifies or not for the topic. But her writing is really good.
