I'm not reading as much as I'd like to so I want to try to get more into it. Dragons are awesome, so this seems to be a good starting point, I guess.
Some additional preferences:
- the book should be relatively short or at least not be part of a series (I tend to abandon stuff halfway through, so I hope this'll help)
- the dragon(s) should be central to the story (so nothing like The Hobbit or A Song of Ice and Fire, where the dragons don't appear most of the time)
- bonus points if there's a unique take on dragons
If you have a recommendation that doesn't fit these criteria perfectly, feel free to post it anyway.

Eragon is a great dragon classic, the whole series is pretty good and right around 300ish pages
Edit: I looked it up and its longer than I had remembered at 500 pages
It is a series, but a short – and finished one (four books) straddling middle grade and YA- the Pit Dragon series by Jane Yolen- it’s scifi set on a penal colony planet where fighting dragons in pits is a big economy and the main character steals a dragon egg intending to hatch and raise it to buy himself out of bondage
