I can’t stop thinking about the Gulf. I’m a PA native but a big birdwatcher and have wanted to go on a Gulf road trip for quite some time to see some of our country’s best birds. A friend’s wedding in Alabama this spring coinciding with some time off work has given me the perfect chance to finally do it.

I just finished Jack Davis’ 2017 Pulitzer Prize winning environmental history of the Gulf (“The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea”) and was blown away. Obviously, the current political situation around the Gulf has only deepened my interest. It’s a tragic and beautiful place.

I want to think about it more. I don’t care if it’s fiction or nonfiction or poetry, loosely related to the Gulf or entirely about it – I want any and all interpretations. I’m trying to think if I’ve ever read any other books concerning the Gulf in any way. The closest I can think of is The Old Man and the Sea.

    I appreciate any recommendations!
