You read that right.
I’m a masochist when it comes to reading. I am a person with a ton of emotions. I feel very deeply and very strongly for almost every emotion (I’m in therapy, don’t worry). Since I was young, I loved reading books that will destroy me. The sadder, the better.
As a teenager, I obsessed with books by John Green, especially Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, and Laurie Halse Andersen. There’s a handful of others, as well. But if you know those titles, you know the vibe I’m going for. I’m also a writer with an MFA in YA and children’s literature, so I’ve read plenty of YA in my years. So now, I’m seeking adult fiction that’ll haunt me.
Kinda like take my heart and put it in a blender and give it back to me.
Please so shoot me with your best shot.

Project X- Jim Shepard
The Road- Cormac McCarthy
The Book Thief- Zusak
The Red Rising series by Pierce Brown if you’re willing to invest. The first book is a little YA but if you keep going you’ll be rewarded with the pain you desire.
If not….
never let me go – kazuo Ishiguro
Watership down – Richard Adams
A million little pieces – James Frey
The Road – cormac mccarthy
11/22/63 – Stephen king
A Little Life (hanya yanagihara) – this was just the most depressing thing ever, it’s not for some people and should come with serious TW.
This sub needs a sticky with that request, it gets asked daily
Not sure about “destroy”, but every time I finish All Quiet on the Western Front, I have to sit quietly for a few minutes and reflect on what I just read.
