Looking for books that explore identity and the meaning of life with a hint of life crisis and weird abstract stuff, don’t know if anyone gets what i’m trying to get at 😭
For identity and life crisis exploration, Iain Reid’s ‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’. I read it after watching the adaptation, and though the book is leaner to some detriment, it’s still a fascinating journey of a book.
ETA: Forgot to say where the weirdness is. Some spoilers! Not wanting to spoil much, but the novel is about a young couple visiting the boyfriend’s parents, though facts seem to shift around and there’s an interrupting thread of two cops investigating a crime scene, the connection of which to the plot is a mystery for a good portion of the book.
