I’ve read other Colson Whitehead: Nickel Boys, Sag Harbor, Crook Manifesto. But I’m looking for black experience period novels. It also occurs to me the Geraldine Brooks’ novel Horse fits this niche as well. Other suggestions? Modern to post-modern preferred.

Washington Black and Half-Blood Blues, by Esi Edugyan, are both excellent. Personally I preferred Blues.
