Preferably, I’d love a good mystery or thriller. We always bring food that is regional to the book, and I think we have done every kind of cuisine imaginable except, somehow, Mexican.

One thing I’ve noticed while researching options is that magic seems to be a very common theme within the culture. I’m open to it, but I know a few ladies in the club would not be into it. Right now I’m leaning towards the Murmur of Bees, but we have also read a lot of historical/war fiction and this also seems to have some mystical elements.

    All suggestions appreciated, thank you!

    1. Mexican Gothic, by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia. It’s a gothic mystery, centered around a remote house in the Mexican foothills/mountains. It reminded a lot of Agatha Christie.

    2. Tesla And The Pyramid by Jenner Brown is a speculative history and science thriller partially set in Mexico.

    3. Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas is a good historical romance/horror. I’ll second Mexican Gothic as well
