I have been learning spanish for a few months, being inspired mostly by the art and the vibe of Latin American countries like Mexico and Argentina (movies, music…).
So it is only natural that I would be interested in some LA literature as well. Can you recommend me some classics, or classic authors in general, from the Spanish-speaking parts of LA? Of course, I will read the english translations.

The big classic rec is Gabriel Garcia Marquez (and with good reason)- he actually once said he liked some of his English translations more than his Spanish originals
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende, Laura Esquival, Jorges Luis Borges, Mario Vargas Llosa are some of the classics, you can’t go wrong trying some of these!
Also Mariana Enriquez, hernan diaz and Samanta Schweblin
For lesser known books I’d rec the remainder by alia trabucca zeran, lost children archive, elena knows and the adventures of china iron
the tunnel by ernesto sabato
