There's lots of books that draw inspiration from Greek or Nordic mythology for example, but I'm looking for something based on other countries' folklore, like for example Master and Margarita or Brom's Krampus. I'm preferably looking for fiction but please no YA, that one's non-negotiable. 🙂

Admittedly Russia’s status as a European country is often argued, but the only ones that come to mind are The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey and Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente and both are really beautiful!
{{Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu}} is the inspiration for Dracula.
> Thus fortified I might take my rest in peace. But dreams come through stone walls, light up dark rooms, or darken light ones, and their persons make their exits and their entrances as they please, and laugh at locksmiths. I had a dream that night that was the beginning of a very strange agony. I cannot call it a nightmare, for I was quite conscious of being asleep.
