I intern at a nonprofit in Juvenile Hall, my role is a mentor. I'm primarily in the girls unit (avg age 14-17) and the older youth (all boys, 18-25) unit. I wanted to start a book club with both units. Most, if not all, are gang affiliated in some capacity. Same with substance abuse. Any book with those themes would be great but not required. Any book fiction or non fiction that deals with anger, gangs, self confidence, prison settings. Self help books are welcome too. I'm still relatively new so I apologies for the broad suggestions.
I would say that any book romanticizing violence or substance abuse is a no go. Or any corny/cheesy self help.
