Read MGOGE a years ago and enjoyed it. Recently finished Prince of Tides and while I thought some of the characters were a bit melodramatic it was a truly great story set in the rural south.

At a friends reccomendation, I tried reading the Great Santini and just couldn't get into it. I read about halfway through it and just didn't find anything truly compelling or southern about it. Nothing compelled me to want to keep reading it.

I have been told Lords of Discipline or Beach Music are better but a little gun shy after the dissappointment with the great santini.

Someone recommended Where the Crawdads Sing.

There is always Faulkner's work, but that seems to be an earlier time period then I am currently interested in.

I have read Gone With the Wind, All the King's Men, Lonesome Dove, King Fish, the writings of Nash Buckingham and Archibald Rutledge, and loved them.

Read all of Cairo's books on LBJ and the Power Broker. Read most of Dickens writtings, love Christmas Carol, Great Expectactions, and Copperfield.

Read most of J Frank Dobie's works…..but again currently looking for something similar to Prince of Tides and MGOGE.

    Thanks.
