Hello! I usually don't read book series unless they're finished or being close to finishing. But I'm wondering if I'm missing some great books with that mindset. So, genuinely curious, are there any unfinished series you think are worth reading?

For a fun whodunit series – The Susan Ryland series. Magpie Murders & Moonflower Murders are out now. Marble Hall Murders is expected next month.

The Kingkiller Chronicle. It’s very possible Patrick Rothfuss will never finish the series, but it is very much worth it.

The Legendborn series by Tracy Deon. It’s a retelling of the legend of King Arthur. YA, but so so good. Addresses a lot of themes of racism within institutions, too. The third book is coming out this year!

    4. In Search of Lost Time

A Song of Ice & Fire

      Gormenghast.

The Brothers Karamazov. It’s one book, but still.

    5. Brandon Sanderson isn’t for everyone, but Stormlight Archive is a pretty cool high fantasy series! It’s only half finished, but it’s deliberately split into two massive arcs— so books 1-5 are finished, and in the coming years there’ll be books 6-10.

I am currently waiting on A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School. It’s a manga and I get one or two a year since I have to wait for them to be translated. Also The Locked Tomb series and Lore Olympus aren’t finished but they are amazing!

The Mages of Ambrai by Melanie Rawn is the greatest two book trilogy ever written. The Mageborn Traitor and The Ruins of Ambrai are two of my favorite books. Beautifully crafted, amazing world building, characters that seem to leap off the page, and the kind of story that will keep you reading until dawn. I recommend them constantly and reread them every couple of years (for the past two decades) just in case The Captal’s Tower materializes.

There’s a decent wrap-up at the end of book two – you’ll spend the rest of your life wanting to know who Collan’s mother is, but no cliff hangers.

    8. JK Rowling is a trash human, but a great writer. I really like her Strike series, the next one comes out some time this year.

    9. Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I bought because so many people recommended. But it sat on my shelf for years because every time I picked it up and read the summary, I would how boring it sounded. I had absolutely no interest. But I finally decided to try it in November. I ended up buying these other four books in the series and devoured these 900+ page books. I have one left to read and have bought the first of another of his series. He’s great with character building and merging storylines and I learned some things from history as well. Pillars was my favorite read last year!

    10. ASOIAF – even unfinished, it’s my favorite series ever. The writing is just much better than most fantasy writers. Especially the dialogue.
