I've been trying to work on my family that some books on my Kindle are perfect to nod off to. I'm not looking for something engaging and engrossing clay the Rings Trilogy or The Hitchhiker's Guide. Major traits I'm looking for including simple language (can hold my attention in a half-asleep state), pick-up-and-read energy it's not a lot of deep lore.

Here are some examples that have worked well for me:

    • Factotum by Charles Bukowski. This has been my latest "sleepy read" that checks all my boxes.

    • A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain. Definitely not the best book by Twain, but it's goofy, approachable and doesn't require a lot of context when I pick it up and nod off.

    • Sleepwalk With Me by Mike Birbiglia. Normally I don't consider a lot of memoirs by stand-up comedians, but this one is unique and intriguing enough to make me laugh and the theme of insomnia and sleepwalking works pretty well here. In fact, I have a feeling that one of his stand up bits was what inspired me to look for books to sleep to, lol.

    • The wind-up bird chronicle by haruki murakami is another good one. I find that the vignettes tied together work well here for what I'm trying to get.

I have tried airport reads, melodramatic political thrillers and romance novels, but I just can't get into them. Something about them give me "unpleasant relative at a family gathering" vibes. I hope I'm not asking for something difficult to find. Does anyone else seem to understand what I am referring to?
