Over the years I’ve read over a few historical books about wars. All of them were either from the perspective of politics, first person war fighters, or from a higher historical perspective written by a historian.

I would like to find some books written from the perspective of the local citizens who were directly impacted by the combat of war.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be written by the individuals that were there but what I’m looking for are personal stories, how they survived, what the leadership of that country was doing and what the average citizen felt about it, etc.

I think some obvious ones to look for are books written by Jews affected by nazi German during WW2 but some recommendations on lesser known wars and peoples affected would be interesting

Also, the closer to the present day the better.

But If you’re just dying to recommend a book that takes place during an older war I won’t say no. I’ll probably read that too.
