I have been really interested in body horror/ thrillers lately, and have been looking for novels centered around unethical testing and experimentation, but most of what I've been able to find has been from the pov of the scientists or someone outside of the facility coming across the victims, but I'm more interested in the horror of watching yourself become something unrecognizable.

    1. Man, that’s a tough one! *Frankenstein* is written partly from the perspective of the experimenter, but he isn’t really experimenting on himself.

I want to suggest *The Case of Charles Dexter Ward* by H.P. Lovecraft, but it’s still told from an outsider’s perspective. Same with *Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde* and *The Island of Doctor Moreau*. I can’t come up with anything that fits all your criteria, but maybe these will be a good jumping off point.
