I’ve been running into a regular problem in my book club, where the books I’m picking are too expensive for other members. They want books that are $11 or less.
Whereas, I’m leaning towards books that have won awards or tend to be on a “must read” list. Really, I’m looking for books that get you “thinking.” As an English major I’ve read a lot of classics of literature. So I’m trying to find ones I haven’t read but trying to lean away from sappy romance books, Christmas books, and Nora Roberts because those are the books they lean towards and I want to get the club out of that comfort zone.
I really wanted to read the “The Vegetarian” by Han Kang. But I’m getting push back on the pricing.
Books I’ve suggested:
Bluest Eyes by Toni Morison
Indifferent stars by Dan Brown
A Man called Ove by Fredrick Backman
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Consider getting a library card and downloading from Libby or Hoopla?
Many of Oxford World’s Classics fit your budget. I just bought their edition of Persuasion for under $10 at my local indie book store
