My family is currently reading through Emergent Strategy by adrienne marie brown (I highly recommend it – it feels like a very timely read right now), and in the book she talks about a term called visionary fiction coined by Walidah Imarisha. She describes visionary fiction as fiction that "intentionally explores how change happens from the bottom up, how change works in collective ways, disrupting the single white male hero narrative, centering marginalized communities." Genres she names that sometimes overlap with visionary fiction include sci fi, speculative fiction, fantasy, magical realism, and myth. My question is what novels have you read and loved that you would consider to fit within this description of visionary fiction?
