For me, the best psychological thrillers are those with jaw-dropping plot twists that I never would’ve seen coming and have me rethinking my entire reading experience. Unfortunately, I’ve only read one or two so far that have matched this energy (the best being ‘Daisy Darker’) as I have a nasty habit of predicting the “twist” long before I get to it.

Suggest me a book with the best twist you’ve read?

(PS: I don’t mind any potential trigger warnings – I’m unfazed by books that take dark paths)

I usually don’t like recommending books with plot twists because I feel like it defeats the entire point but Dark Matter is good and short enough that I feel like it’s a good rec here. I finished it like in two days because it gripped me the entire time. Sci fi thriller. Highly recommend.

I’m a pro at guessing plot twists, it’s sort of a known thing among my friends lol, and The Strange Case of Jane O. by Karen Thompson Walker took me *completely* by surprise. There’s definitely point at the end where you’re kind of supposed to be able to put it together, but not for a looooong time.

Try to go in as blind as possible, but the basic premise is there’s a psychiatrist is working with a detective on this weird case involving a woman anonymized as Jane O. Jane has been experiencing fugue states and hallucinations and abandoning her young son—but doesn’t remember any of the lost time. It’s mostly told through the psychiatrist’s notes on the case.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid. Also, I don’t recommend the movie.
