Way back in middle school, a girl I had a crush on asked me if I wanted to do a blind book swap, where we both come to school the next day with a random book we loved for the other person to read. If I recall correctly, I gave her *The Lightning Thief* and she gave me *Pretty Little Liars*.
As a preteen (or maybe I was 13, but no older) boy, PLL was absolutely nowhere on my radar. But, heavily motivated by hormones, I opened the book to start reading that night.
Pretty sure I finished it by the end of the following night. It started with me saying “okay, I’ll read it for her,” and it ended with me desperately wanting to get home from school the following day to get all the juicy gossip and details.
I never read the rest of the series, I also never got the girl. But that book lives on positively in my memory lol.

Unashamedly watching this thread rather closely.
