Nonfiction, adventure story (preferably land-based, not sea), not WWI or WWII, not crusades
This is for my BF who is kinda a beginner with history. He wasn't much into hitting the books while in school, but wants to expand his knowledge, especially with history.
All this is to say, I don't think "The Travels of Marco Polo" by Marco Polo and Rustichello da Pisa would be a good choice, for example, because of the archaic language (please don't come for me, I'm trying to help him educate himself and I want to meet him where he is).
But a very compelling narrative about Marco Polo might be a good fit.
A really good biography about an interesting (non-royal) person who had an adventure?
My personal favorites in the Nonfiction Adventure category are In the Heart of the Sea, Shadow Divers, and North Korean defector narratives. He's reading Mill Town by Kerri Arsenault right now.
Thank you!
