Suggest me a book with a non-white author in the literary fiction/historical fiction genre

My friend and I are in search of our next book club pick. We are working on being intentional with diversifying our reading and are looking for fiction recommendations written by non-white authors that you loved, bonus points for non-American as well! Preferably 350 pages or less, but not a total deal breaker either 🙂 Our favorite genres are literary and/or historical fiction, not so much contemporary fiction/romance/mystery.

Also, ideally published in the last 5 years or so, but again, not a dealbreaker!
