Apocalypse survival books that are NOT about character drama / emotional gut punches

I love the idea of reading through the eyes of an apocalypse survivor, and discovering the world through their eyes whilst the world around them slowly expands, all while following an engaging plot line. Could be realistic, Fantasy, SciFi, .. don't particularly care as long as the plot is interesting.

Unfortunately it seems 99% of the books in this genre focus on character drama, or mix the plot driven structure with strong emotional gut punches. To each their own but not what I'm looking for.

Some examples I've read: Earth Abides, Mountain Man, Apocalypse Trails.

Appreciate any ideas!
