I recently watched Knock at the Cabin and saw it was based on a book so I picked it up and am already almost finished with it. This is kind of a big deal for me because my ability to focus enough to read a whole book has been gone for 8 years, after my brother passed away. Maybe it can help my brain read if I see the film first so I'm curious what are some of your favorites? I prefer one story books for now instead of series, so I don't feel overwhelmed. TIA. 📖❤️

I just re-watched The World According to Garp and it was a delightful way to remember how much I loved the book

Holes by Louisfake Sachar and the 2003 film. It is my favorite adaptation of a book ever. The only major difference between them is that Shia Labeouf wasn’t plus size at the beginning and lost weight while at camp and that was so that Shia didn’t die of heatstroke in Texas. (Plus the shooting schedule was short so it was also just a practicality to not have that part of the story)

Valley of the Dolls. The book is definitely better than the movie, but the movie is a camp classic in its own right, and Patty Duke gives a hell of a performance.

Pillars of the Earth got turned into a miniseries that’s pretty good.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a decent movie but they changed the ending from the book completely.

The Silver Linings Playbook is a great movie but they changed a bunch from the book.

The Princess Bride is a great movie and the book is also great too.

Gone with the wind. There was no way to translate the whole book into a movie, and the book is masterfully written

The Shining book and film are very different. After loving the film for years, I finally picked up the book. They’re two different things with their own strengths.
