Novels with an apathetic male protagonist who is just going through the motions?
Any genre beside romance is good. Also, please don't suggest novels in which he falls in love with a woman and gets better. It's okay if he gets better, but not because of that. I'm sick to death of romance.

*Rejection* by Tony Tulathimutte. You won’t thank me later.
I considered *Portnoy’s Complaint*, but one could never call Portnoy apathetic.
Catcher in the Rye
Kurt Vonnegut and Chuck Palahnuik have some books like that. Don’t remember which specifically though.
