I need some suggestions for literary classics that would be appropriate for a toddler; I don't expect her to understand everything in the book, I just don't want it to frighten her. Like, when she was 0-1.5, I read her Sherlock Holmes and Poirot stories (with some gentle editing). I'd love suggestions of a similar vibe, but which won't have to be edited, since I plan to play them as audiobooks during naptime, and won't be in the room.
So far, my only thought was maybe Alice in Wonderland, or the Hobbit. Is The Hobbit scary? It was read to me as a kid, but I don't remember it very well.
