Non-Emmerich film vibes would include Dante's Peak or Geostorm.
Just something with a kernel of truth to it that winds up absolutely huge and ridiculous by the second act.
I've read Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, Ashfall by Mike Mullins, and The Rule of Three by Eric Walters.
