Hi, I don’t know how to phrase this and I don’t want what I mean to be misconstrued!!
So background- Ive never thought of myself to hold any kind of racial bias or inward prejudices, I’m definitely not racist but I am quite sheltered and suddenly learning I’m a lot more sheltered (ignorant?) than I thought. I live in the whitest part of my country and I’ve only ever had one none white friend who was the only POC I’d ever met for a very long time. I’ve never done much research into other cultures other than what we learnt in school.
I recently read Yellowface by Rebecca F Kuang and it really opened my eyes to hidden struggles I’d never even thought of. I was so shocked and moved by loads of different aspects of it and I just loved it. I don’t think a book has ever really made me look deeply at myself before and realise that actually, I’m part of the problem. I want to change that.
I’d really like to read more books like that.
I love that kind of conversational narration style but honestly, I read quite a ride variety of books. The only things I won’t read are non fiction books (though I do like fiction books with elements of real history) and sci fi books.
Thank you!!
